Rev. Gregory A. Mathias, S.T.L.

It might be said that “Fr. Greg” is a home-grown vocation, since he grew up in nearby Seekonk.  He has been a priest since 1991 and has served in a variety of assignments around the diocese.  Having completed public schooling in Seekonk, Fr. Greg pursued a possible career in the U.S. Merchant Marine through training at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, from which he graduated in 1986 with a B.S degree in Marine Transportation and a U.S. Coastguard License as a Third Mate in the Merchant Marine.

The persistent call of the Lord to the priesthood led to Fr. Greg’s immediate entry into the seminary upon college graduation.  After ordination he served as a parochial vicar in parish ministry, a brief stint as high school chaplain, and an extended period as a hospital chaplain on Cape Cod.  In 2003, Bishop Coleman sent Fr. Greg for an advanced degree in Marriage and Family Theology.  Subsequent to this, he became the Director of the Office of Family Ministry and the Pastor of St. Julie Billiart Parish.

Fr. Greg’s family still lives in nearby Seekonk, and he has a sister, nephew and nieces in Connecticut.  He resides at St. Julie’s rectory with his faithful companion Daisy, a yellow-lab mix who came to him from Alabama through an animal rescue effort.

Paula J. Raposo, M.Ed., C.P.S.

Paula has been a member of St. Julie’s parish since its establishment. She has fond memories of riding in the back of her dad’s car holding the paschal candle across her lap for safe keeping as he  helped transport the “supplies” from the Saturday Vigil  Mass at Dartmouth High School, down Slocum Road to Bishop Stang High School for the Sunday Masses.  She still lives in Dartmouth, and is the mother of three adult children.

Paula’s first experiences as a religious educator came at the urging of her daughter Aimee, age 7 at the time, who had just heard then DRE Sister Theresa Sparrow make a pitch for “CCD teachers” after Mass.  At her daughter’s urging she signed on and served as a catechist for several years in both the elementary and middle school programs.  As her interest in teaching religion grew, she completed a diocesan catechist certification program. In 1998 she accepted a position as Director of Religious Education at Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish in Fall River, MA, serving the parish youth and their families from grades 1-10 for six years.

In 2005 Paula received a Master’s in Religious Education from Boston College and in January of 2006 accepted Fr. Greg’s invitation to serve St. Julie’s as the Director of Adult Faith Formation and the RCIA.  In the summer of 2010 Paula earned a Post master’s certificate in the practice of Spirituality from Boston College.  In addition to her work in ministry Paula is also a Clinical Specialist at the laboratory of the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, MA. She also serves Boston College’s Church in the 21st Century C21Online program as a regular online course facilitator.
