An apostolate is the work on earth executed by disciples of Jesus Christ. This work, while being in the world, is not solely or even primarily for the temporal benefit of humanity (although it will inevitably have such benefit) which in itself may be a noble cause when such benefit conforms with the natural law and for the common good. The work of each specific apostolate is to bring all people to the knowledge, love and joy of Jesus Christ. The real, true work of the apostolate is fueled by grace and brought about for the purpose of assisting each person toward his or her eternal destiny, the foremost and final benefit of man: the Beatific Vision of God in heaven.
